Awaken with Wisdom — Daily Reflection

When Love Meets Wisdom

Wednesday, September 16, 2026

Some people would say one of my character defects is being naïve. I tend to see the good in people first, and I often offer my trust, kindness, and sometimes even my love before I fully understand who is standing in front of me.

That openness has led to meaningful friendships and unexpected moments of grace. It has also led to disappointment, betrayal, and more than a few mistakes. At other times, after being hurt, I have moved to the opposite extreme and built walls so high that even good people could not reach me.

Maybe both descriptions are true. I can trust too quickly, and I can become guarded too completely. Neither extreme gives love much room to grow.

I am learning that love and trust are not the same thing. I can care about someone’s humanity, hope for their healing, and treat them with dignity without giving them immediate access to every vulnerable part of my life. Love can be offered freely, but deeper trust should be built slowly through honesty, consistency, and action.

Wisdom does not ask me to become cold or suspicious. It asks me to pay attention. It teaches me to notice patterns, respect boundaries, and believe what repeated behavior is showing me. Discernment protects love from becoming self-neglect.

I would still rather begin with openness than live in constant fear. I would rather risk occasional hurt than allow pain to harden my heart. But I no longer have to confuse kindness with permission or forgiveness with unlimited access.

With God’s guidance, I can keep a soft heart and clear eyes. I can love people without trying to rescue them, forgive them without returning to danger, and wish them well without walking beside them closely.

Perhaps the goal is not to trust everyone. Perhaps it is to love everyone while gaining enough wisdom to recognize who has earned deeper trust. When love meets wisdom, compassion and boundaries can finally stand together.

Do you know someone who needs to hear this today?
